Eureka!

Before the season's last heirloom vanishes, I wanted to post the above photo from the farmers market of Tuesday, August 8,in Eureka, California. Three days after it was posted on Flickr in late August, the folks there who rank each poster's shots in terms of "interestingness" had catapulted it to "Number 1" among more than 800 shots I'd posted. Previously, they had ranked the squash blossoms featured at this site on June 14 as the most interesting. Now the squash blossoms are number 2.

These heirlooms were shot during the period during which Mrs. Yi joined me for three days in San Francisco to drive up the California and Oregon Coasts. Heading north, we visited Mendocino, Garberville, and Eureka, California, then Bandon and Florence, Oregon, before heading inland to Eugene, Oregon and finally north to Portland---all in five days. It meant spending more time driving and sightseeing than checking out the food scene---at least until we got to Portland. Next post will be about two very interesting Portland restaurants. After the Portland post will be one about a restaurant in Seattle whose squash blossoms one-upped the ones you saw and read about here.
